Not long ago I was at a job interview where I was inquired many hard interview queries. After I provided my answer, the employer would sit there, quiet, not saying a word. I got nervous so I sustained to explain on my answer, and I made few stupid mistakes that I know I did not make in my original answer. What should I have done?

Skilled employers utilize silence as a tactic to observe if they can throw you off your game. Various applicants plan their interview answers, but very some plan what to do if the answer is “not enough” by the employer’s standards. So the employer utilizes it to their advantage by remaining silent as though they are waiting for you to sustain, causing you to be nervous and say things you would not normally say.

Instead of elaborate unprompted, you should simply inquire the employer “Is there anything else you would like me to add or a particular point you would like me to address?” If there is, the employer will tell you, and you can consider about how to give a good answer. If there is not, the employer will move on to the next query.

It is frustrating, but it is effective. Most likely the employer will just do it for one or two queries. If they do it for every question, then they may simply be giving you an opportunity to elaborate yourself before you move on, or they are jerks. Some employers are jerks. It is life.

The only advice is to not elaborate with an unplanned reaction without prompting, particularly if you are elaborating because you are nervous. Rambling answers are bad answers. Keep calm and inquire the employer if they have anything else and you should be fine.
