What Are Your Major Weaknesses?

What Are Your Major Weaknesses?

We all have some kind of weaknesses. Many of them include those weaknesses that you should never share with a potential boss. It should be clear that you should not actually answer this query:

  • “I tend to oversleep and don’t always demonstrate up to work on time.”
  • “I am a heavy drinker and it has impact my work in the previous days.”

These are clearly not great answers. Employers may desire to know your weaknesses, but replying this query very honestly is not going to avail you the job.

There are also responses that may seem as though they would work, but may yet harm your chances of interview:

  • “I do not like getting accused for things I did not do.”
  • “I can get defensive when I am not agreed with.”
  • “I find speaking on the mobile or phone to be uncomfortable.”

These, too, will harm your possibilities of getting a job. The first 2 make it sound as though you complain frequently and may be too much. The latter indicates you may not be applicable or qualified for an aspect of your job position. They may appear somewhat harmless, but they can shockingly impact your chances.

How to Answer the Query

When you respond this interview query, you should make certain that your answer does 2 things:

  • Discuss an issue that everyone has had at 1 point or another.
  • Discuss the measures you have already started to fix the issue.

For instance, common issues that everyone confronts involve:

  • Organizing
  • Consuming too Much Time
  • Multitasking

These are usually harmless; provided you do not assert that you have a major issue with it. You should then make your reply in a way that it sounds as though you are fixing the issue.

“When I first began working I would try to get as many tasks as I could from my leader and finish them as rapidly as possible. I mostly felt I was rushing through work without providing them the right care. Since then, although, I have worked on scheduling myself improved and find that I am capable to work on tasks much more efficaciously in comparison to that I had in the past.”

The reply may not be ideal or perfect, but it gets the point across, and it indicates that even though you had a weakness in the previous days, you are actually working hard towards fixing it.

Take Away Interview Tips

  • Answer queries about weaknesses with a comprehensive, common weakness.
  • Follow it up with the measures you have already taken to fix it, utilizing particular instances if possible.
